My Camera Story

Cameras can be an expensive hobby but it is worth the price, it is an extension your creativity, your passion, a valuable piece of history, and your art! Depending on the year, make, and model of the camera, the condition it is in, and who is the seller, prices could range from $500 to $2,000+.

My first camera was a Nikon EM which was given to me as a gift by my father in January 2020. The second and my most current camera is a Cannon EOS Rebel T6i, which I purchased on Amazon.com

When I was a sixteen, I would always “borrow” my dad’s camera to take pictures of flowers. Sadly, as the years went by, I stopped my passion of photography due to my parents marital issues got really bad, to the point to where all I really remember is yelling, screaming, and my dad loosing touch with reality due to his depression.

Years after, my parents separated. The things I asked to keep was his camera and the PlayStation 2. I used my dads camera but something did not feel right to me, I wanted a camera that was all mine. In February 2020, I upgraded to the T6i and started taking pictures of nature, art, food, and of my friends and my mom and Ashley, my younger sister.

At first the Cannon was a pain to understand, all the new mechanisms and features was overwhelming. Reading the manual and researching the EOS Rebel on YouTube helped alleviate a lot of stress. After weeks of tinkering with the T6i and self-proclaiming myself as a “master” I handed down Nikon to my younger sibling.

The person who inspired me to take on my photography hobby again was an old friend, Dominic. I remember, on his SnapChat he would posts images of nature. I will admit, at first I was captivated by his images, then decided to myself, “I can do that too”.

Camera shopping both difficulty yet fun. Before I bought the camera I did, I asked multiple Journalism professors about which camera is best for newbies (a person who is inexperienced in a particular activity). Everyone who I asked recommended both Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR and Nikon D5600. I found the Canon T6i to be the best option for me.

For anyone who is temped by the bundle deal, I would not suggest it. You pay extra for accessories. 80% of the accessories which come with the bundle are items you would not normally use. If fact, it is cheaper buying everything separate; sometimes even of higher quality.
